Style Highlight: Bob vs. Lob

Start this new year right with a throwback to the roaring 20s.  The bob cut is a short to medium length cut where the hair is cut straight around the head at about jaw level.  If you’ve seen the Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction, you’ll have seen the bob sported by Uma Thurman’s infamous character, Mia Wallace.  The bob started in the 20s as a symbol of modernity by women who wanted to buck the traditional roles of society.  As the tide of fashion has ebbed and flowed the bob faded by the 30s but made a comeback in the 60s, coinciding with Beatlemania and the dawn of the “mop top” for men, as well as making a resurgence in the 2000s with the help of pop culture icons such as Madonna, Rihanna, Keira Knightley, Charlize Theron, and others.

Now if you want to flaunt your modernity without chopping off all of your precious locks look no further than the bob’s longer-legged sister: the lob.  At its core, the lob is a less aggressive bob that came into vogue in the 1960s and has stayed popular into current times as a long bob.
