Far Out February

We’re going to continue our travel back in time that we started with the bob/lob and answer the call of the 70s now. Today we’re talking about the modern shag.  While the shag has been a mainstay in style since the 70s, we’re seeing a resurgence in the look with all the trimmings of modern styling. This style is sexy, strong, and flattering. You can try it with or without a strong fringe that is cut away into long or short hair. This gives it the personality of a hybrid between a mullet and a shag.

The short hair with a gentle nod to a mullet works with softer edges and movement. It gives the mullet a soft femininity and versatility that you won’t find in the 70s shag. The modern shag works great with texture as opposed to how in the 70s it was all about the straight look. This look works for all types of hair: long, short, straight, curly, etc.  Some recent celebs rocking the modern shag are Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. Ke$ha also rocked the modern shag with wet styling to the American Music Awards where she performed her hits “Tik Tok” and “Raising Hell” for the ceremonies
